Day/night blinds — the promenade privacy trick

Alternating bands of sheer and solid fabric on one continuous loop. Align the bands and the sea view pours in; offset them and the apartment goes private the moment the lights come on and the promenade can suddenly see you.

How it works

Two fabrics woven into one, and a half-turn between moods

A day/night blind (you’ll also hear “zebra” or “vision” blind) runs its banded fabric as a loop — the front and back layers slide past each other, so a few centimetres of travel changes everything.

Bands aligned Sheer sits over sheer — soft filtered light, the horizon intact, glare knocked back. This is the daytime setting that makes the product worth having on a sea-facing window.
Bands offset Solid covers sheer — privacy in one motion, without plunging the room dark. From the street side, the window simply reads as a clean striped panel.
Fully raised The whole fabric rolls away into its cassette like any roller blind. On a still evening with the doors open, nothing between you and the water.
Where it beats a plain roller Rooms that swing between “show me the view” and “stop showing me to the promenade” — lounges and bedrooms above busy Beach Road and Main Road frontage especially.
Honest guidance

What we’ll tell you at the measure

A day/night’s solid bands give privacy, not blackout — a thin halo of light will always play at the band edges. For a nursery or a true shift-sleeper we’ll steer you to a blockout roller in that room instead, and happily fit day/nights everywhere else. Fabric tones run from crisp whites through linen neutrals to deep charcoals; darker tones read better against glare off the water.

Like all our coastal installs, the cassette is sealed, the hardware is powder-coated, and the control chain is anchored with a child-safe tensioner — or removed entirely with a rechargeable motor.

Questions

Day/nights, honestly answered

Is a day/night blind private at night with the lights on?

Yes — with the bands offset, the solid stripes overlap the sheers and sightlines from outside are closed. It’s the aligned (sheer) setting that behaves like any sheer fabric after dark, which is exactly why the offset setting exists and takes two seconds to reach.

Do the bands date? It feels like a trend.

The striped look reads contemporary, and like every fabric choice it carries some fashion risk. Neutral tones in a fine band age far better than bold contrasts in a wide one — we’ll show you both against your own light before you decide anything.

Can they be motorised?

Yes — rechargeable battery motors retrofit neatly into the same cassette, with remote or app control. On wide sliding glass a linked motorised pair keeps the bands perfectly level, which chain control struggles to do over time.

Where we fit these

Day/night blinds for streets that watch back

This is the blind Green Point asks for most — anywhere a street, a park or a stadium crowd sits close enough to see in. It does the same job on Mouille Point’s front-row glass and the tall sunset walls of Fresnaye, and on Bantry Bay’s evening-facing lounges, wherever a room needs to swing between open and private without losing the view.
